Jenneh Kaikai
Jenneh Kaikai is the owner and cake designer at Pelah Kitchen, a micro-bakery based in Bedstuy Brooklyn that specializes in botanical cake artistry. She creates whimsical and imaginative confectionary designs using local and non-toxic, flowers and produce.
Pelah means “home” in Mende, a nod to Jenneh’s Sierra-Leonean heritage. Whether experimenting with indigenous West African spices like calabash nutmeg, or aromatic cardamom and ginger, she likes to think of sharing her cakes as a way of inviting people into her home and ultimately the diverse flavors and ingredients of the African diaspora.
Pelah Kitchen offers wedding cakes, cake decorating classes, catering and dessert services, and does collaborations with brands for product launches and staged photo shoots.
Since launching in October 2020, Pelah Kitchen has been featured in Vanity Fair magazine, Google’s 2021 International Women’s Day campaign, Bon Appetit and Cherry Bombe Magazine.
